REVIEW: Extinction Machine by Jonathan Maberry

Todd Jepperson

EXTINCTION MACHINE is the fifth novel in Jonathan Maberry’s Joe Ledger series involving a retired Boston P.D. cop who finds himself at the business end of the Department of Military Sciences. As the leader of Echo Team, Joe is always running full speed into the kinds of things nobody else wants to play with. These are the guys the big guns call in when the situation starts to get out of hand. And when I say out of hand, I’m talking in a bad way: zombies, weaponized eugenics, the ten plagues of Egypt, vampires… that kind of stuff.

In EXTINCTION MACHINE Joe is charged with the job of tracking down the President of the United States and bringing him back home after he is taken from the White House right under the nose of the secret service. The only clue being the curious, geometric crop circle pressed into the lawn out front.

In the wake of it all, the DMS’ biggest threat, Vice President William Collins, assumes the role of Commander in Chief and pins the whole thing on suspected terrorist, our hero, Captain Joe Ledger. In reality, though, Collins just wants Mindreader. But as long as it remains the personal property of Mr. Church, he’s got no leverage. So, he does what any good leader would do; he paints Joe as the bad guy and goes after it with guns.

As if this day hadn’t gotten bad enough yet, there’s also the issue of the North Koreans, the Chinese, and the rogue, top-secret initiative group M3 all racing to reverse engineer the technology scavenged from the several UFO crash sites around the world in an effort to end the global arms race once and for all. Also the aliens who want their stuff back.

And oh, yeah, did I mention the pigeon drones that can detonate with almost nuclear force? Yeah, those are in there too.

Out today from Jonathan Maberry and St. Martin’s Press, you can pick up your copy of EXTINCTION MACHINE and find out who or what wants the Majestic Black Book and is willing to destroy the world to get it.

Prepare for a State of Emergency on April 16th

Matt Boiselle

Finally, what looks like a new zombie film with some TEETH ( bad pun intended), will be available to the home theater groupies this April ! State Of Emergency, directed by Turner Clay, takes place in a small mid western town, where an explosion at a nearby chemical facility releases deadly toxins into the air, causing its residents to turn into infected, flesh-craving zombies.

The story itself centers around a character named Jim, who after the explosion and subsequent contagion that has spread to the population, has been forced to stay inside the "red zone" by the military that has quarantined the area. His fight for survival while a cure is attempted to be created will be a long and violent one that will surely test his resolve.

This movie was actually filmed in 2010, but will finally see the light of day on DVD this April 16th, 2013 - so until then, feel free to click on the video link to check out the killer trailer and ask yourself...."could I survive under a State Of Emergency ?"

REVIEW - Darkstalkers Resurrection

If you grew up in the 1980s -90s and you're a fan of this site, you remember two things - the growing amount of zombie films and fighting video games.  There was Street Fighter, Tekken, Street Fighter 2 and so on but where was the horror?  So the video games powers-that-be answered that question with Darkstalkers.  With the coin up fighting game, players could be a werewolf, vampire or, yes, even a zombie and trade punches and kicks.

Capcom has ported three Darkstalker games for play on the Xbox360 and the Playstation 3.  But is the game worth downloading or is it a memory best left in the past?

Giving gamers a chance to play Darkstalkers, Darkstalkers 3 and Night Warriors: Darkstalker's Revenge from their console is an enjoyable experience.  The port is authentic and you'll feel like you're back at the arcade.  The zombie rating is moderate as there is only Lord Raptor in the game representing the undead.  However, the horror / gothic vibe is still present.  Spend the points or the minimal cash and rest your thumbs.  You'll need them and the night awaits!

Darkstalkers Resurrection is available now for download from the Xbox Live and PS3 network.

CAPCOM AND VALVE ANNOUNCE RESIDENT EVIL 6 x LEFT 4 DEAD 2 CROSSOVER PROJECT

San Mateo, Calif. – March 15, 2013 – Capcom and Valve are pleased to announce the Resident Evil® 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 project. This crossover project between two of the interactive entertainment industry’s most respected publishers will see characters from Left 4 Dead™ 2 featured exclusively in the forthcoming PC version of Resident Evil® 6, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will invade the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2. All content will be made available completely free for fans of either game to access and play.

Owners of Resident Evil 6 PC will be able to select one of four survivors from Left 4 Dead 2’s iconic cast – Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle – when playing PC exclusive mode, The Mercenaries No Mercy. Each character will have a special customized weapon load-out created just for use in Resident Evil 6.  In addition to the four survivors, two of the infamous Special Infected zombies from the Left 4 Dead franchise – the Witch and Mini Tank – will also make a cameo appearance in this mode, relentlessly attacking players regardless of whether a character from Left 4 Dead 2 or Resident Evil 6 is chosen. This new and exclusive content will automatically be downloaded in the background to all owners of the PC version of Resident Evil 6 from April 5.

Making the leap to the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be some of Resident Evil 6’s most fearsome enemies – Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman. All three characters were brought to life in Left 4 Dead 2 by Valve’s renowned developers using its Steam Workshop tools. Owners of the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be able to face a new deadly challenge when Resident Evil 6 characters infect Valve’s classic zombie title this spring.

Commenting on the crossover project, Chet Faliszek from Valve stated: “We’re huge Resident Evil fans, so when the opportunity arose to work directly with Capcom to combine L4D2 and RE6, we jumped at it.”

Resident Evil 6 Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi added: “The Resident Evil 6 team really enjoyed working on this crossover, and we’re confident that our fans will have a great time with it too! We hope you enjoy this unique content.”

BBC Series In The Flesh: Trailer available NOW !

Matt Boiselle

The BBC has just released it's newest trailer for their upcoming zombie-themed show called In The Flesh, and it looks as if "zombie- rehab" could be the next big thing to take over the airwaves.

The show, scheduled to hit overseas tellys on March 17th, tells the story of a teen named Kieren (who by the way is a flesh-munching zombie), and the trials and tribulations that he must go through while partaking in the British Government's ordered "zombie-rehabilitation". Kieren has been labeled a victim of P.D.S (partially dead syndrome) and needs to be restructured to re-enter society, unaware that he will be thrown back into the mix with the families and friends of people that he has "consumed" in order to sustain his hunger for flesh while playing for the dead team.

For a quickie- 1 minute trailer peek, click on the pic above and get ready to be sent to rehab...good thing is Dr. Drew isn't hosting this show.
