Zombies in Elmhurst, IL?

by Dorothy Emry

The nursing department of Elmhurst College in Illinois has put a twist on their clinical simulation for a mass flu epidemic: zombies. This March, students at the college are invited to dress and act as zombie patients who will then have their symptoms—the flu-like ones at least—diagnosed by the nursing students. The zombie idea was developed by two of the nursing students. The zombie improv will add an element of fun to the exercise, but of course the learning will be serious. It will also give a chance for the college’s theatre department students to practice their skills.

Another Zombie Flu Mass Epidemic Clinical Simulation will be held in April.

You can read more about the event in the TribLocal article “Zombie-themed drill brings out the waking dead” by Annemarie Mannion.
