Evil Dead the Musical in Stunning 4D… doesn’t get any more real than that

So, you have heard about the live actors at shows like Rocky Horror, the huge cult following and people dressing up. Well, let me turn you on to an even more epic show that will not only entertain you, but cover you in fake blood and make you laugh as well as remind you why you love horror in the first place!

This amazing, fun show is Evil Dead the musical (the ultimate 4D experience) and right now it is running in Vegas, which might seem a little far for some; but really, for an event this epic--and with tax money on its way--why not plan a little vacation and head on over.

How many times are you going to get a chance to see Ash attacked by his own hand LIVE right in front of you AND potentially get sprayed with his blood? Granted it is not Bruce, but this Ash is just as epic.

Sam Raimi Resurrecting The Evil Dead

Word is starting to come out that amid a sea of remakes another is on the verge to set sail. Rob Tapert, a longtime producing partner of Sam Raimi, told the Detroit Free Press a few weeks ago that Sam Raimi is looking to remake his notorious 1981 horror film, The Evil Dead. Tapert said the Raimi “wanted to see The Evil Dead remade for a proper theatrical experience.” Details are very sketchy at this point with scripts just beginning to be looked at. This is quite a treat for fans as talk has been edging recently towards a continuation of the series onto an Evil Dead 4.  Now it looks like we will see a remake with Raimi more than likely producing. Keep checking back with us as we announce the details on this story.

Jim Horwat's Movie Illustrations

Our friend, Andy, sent another link to something we may all find entertaining. SlashFilm.com posted a feature about artist Jim Horwat and his movie illustrations. There are several over there including Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Goonies, and (my favorite) The Big Lebowski. Jim's art prints are available to purchase by visiting his sight, here.

Why am I posting this? Two of Jim's interpretations are of The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 films. So, "thanks" and some swag go out to Andy for the heads-up!

Army of Darkness, Evil Ash - mini bust review

Sorry it's been awhile since my last review. However, the recent lack of new news to report has permitted me the time to post a new one. While not your typical zombie, it's hard to argue that Evil Ash from Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness doesn't qualify. I mean, he's dead and moving around right?

Released by Diamond Select Toys, this bust was released in 2003 to commemorate AOD's 10th anniversary. Sculpted by Gabriel Marquez, Evil Ash was limited to 1,993 pieces. Why 1,993 pieces? Take a guess when the movie was released (hint: it's the same year as there are Evil Ash busts).

Overall, he's a nice piece to add to your collection. The sculpting is great with amazing detail on his rotting face. Paint applications are spot-on with no running from one area to the next. The pose is dynamic without being distracting and allows you the opportunity to view some of the details in his wardrobe.

Speaking of... the folds and tears on the shirt and cape look good and are accentuated by the shading and weathering effects of the paint application. They also did a nice job capturing that particular and familiar looking shade of blue for his shirt. Weathering is also adequate on Ash's armor giving it an authentic medieval feel.

My favorite details, however, are on the hands and face. It's easy to botch these areas but here they are gruesomely accurate with textures and tones. Another common and appreciated tactic employed here is the use of a gloss paint to enhance the torn-flesh areas and eyes.

With this much detail and Army's fan base, I'm surprised this piece isn't more popular. It can still be found for its original retail price of $50 and if you have the room on your bookshelf, I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Evil Dead - The Musical?

I think this has been around for a minute but it's the first I've heard of it. Sam Raimi's Evil Dead has been turned into a musical. From Broadwayworld.com:

During spring break, five college students break into an abandoned cabin in the woods and unleash evil spirits. All hell breaks loose, and the fun soon ensues with zombies...and show tunes! Written by George Reinblatt, with music by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris, and George Reinblatt, Evil Dead: The Musical delights with such tunes as "What the F*** Was That," "Bit Part Demon," "All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons," and the Rocky Horror Picture Show-inspired "Do the Necronomicon."

Blood features prominently in this show. Audience members sitting in the front three rows are guaranteed to get splattered with plenty of plasma. White t-shirts with the slogan "Splatter Zone Survivor" are available for purchase as keepsakes.

Evil Dead: The Musical comes to the Beck Center after an enormously successful 400-performance run in Toronto. "Maxim" calls it, "One musical you'll actually want to see." And The "New York Times" says it's "the next Rocky Horror Picture Show."

I'm not a fan of musicals but even I may give this one a shot!
