   We here at Zombies & Toys are constantly scouring the vast wasteland of undead news in order to bring you, our loyal visitors, the latest and most interesting tidbits regarding anything that has do with flesh-munching madness in the mainstream, and right now...I present to you the newest trailer for the upcoming film Cannon Fodder.

    Fresh from the clutches of White Beach Productions comes the latest zombie outbreak to be slapped on celluloid - Cannon Fodder is about a renegade Israeli Special Forces unit that is dispatched into the depths of Southern Lebanon in order to flush out and capture one of Hezbollah's biggest terrorist threats, but run into a colossal problem - not only is the Special Forces Unit left to deal with rogue soldiers and multiple IDF attacks, but they also must contend with a massive zombie outbreak. While there isn't a definitive release date set as of yet, there are multiple screening dates being offered just by hopping on over to www.cannonfoddermovie.com - but first, you have to check out the trailer above - this looks too good to pass up - So watch on and enjoy the carnage !

State of Emergency: DVD review

   In the pantheon of zombie outbreak movies, pacing can be a sure-fire killer (no pun intended). If the movie is propelling too fast, you can feel as if it's almost passing you by without a hint as to what the heck is going on..too slow.. and you are trying to keep from getting whiplash in an attempt to prevent yourself from falling asleep....and that is where State of Emergency has us trapped.

   When I first had heard about the upcoming release of this film, I immediately hunted down the trailer and honestly was really excited about what was laid out before me. Simple storyline - we follow the lead character Jim (played by Jay Hayden), who in flashbacks has the perfect happy life with his fiancee in an idyllic small town. Unfortunately, things begin to take a downward swirl when the nearby chemical facility suffers an unforseen explosion, sending mass quantities of toxic smoke pluming into the air, and poisoning the locals to the point of where they have become slow (almost still) fragments of their former selves, until they get someone in their line of sight, and then it's time to go to the races, baby !

  Jim, who now finds himself alone due to the death of his not-to-be bride, is helped to safety by Scott (Andy Stahl), who with his girlfriend Julie, and another charmer of a female (Alex), are holed up in an abandoned warehouse with numbers of the recently infected outside, and a military that seems to be running in circles. The movie does have its strongpoints, don't get me wrong - the overall gloom and doom aspect is heavy in a visual sense - you can almost feel the life has been literally sucked out of the small town after the inital catastrophe, and the feeling of lonliness will envelop you, while the pseudo-zombie townsfolk are generally creepy with their dead-red eyes staring a hole into your skull, and then traveling at breakneck speed towards you with an influence of rage that hasn't been seen since the 28 Days movies. The kills, while low in quantity are impressive - head shots from a scoped rifle over hundreds of yards away still give that gorehound splatter that we all know and love, and the makeup detail of the infected, while simple in nature, isn't overdone, which adds to the realism.

  NOW - the true murderer of this movie is the extremely slow pacing in which dialogue between characters, and long, drawn out gazes into open fields will make you feel as if you're running in hot asphalt. Character development is essential to any movie, but come on !, we're in a friggin zombie movie here ! If I wanted to hear someone whining about why they thought they were a lousy daughter, I'd tune into Dr. Phil ! Gimme that sweet blood and guts that I crave ! At best I can tell you that this is at least worth a cheap rental, simply due to the notion that it should be watched for its sweeping scenery and creepy denizens. Other than that, if you are planning on making this a purchase....contact your wallet and declare a State of Emergency.

Zombie Children: True or False ?

A while back we here at Zombies & Toys had a post about the possibilities of zombification, and if it were true, how would the general public react to such a case ? On April 1st, 2012 in the Visayas Islands region of the Philippines, there is a distinct possibility that the dead had indeed come back to life....or had they ?

A government worker from a local health unit had reported that several children had become violently ill, died, and then rose from the dead shortly afterwards to attack certain members of their families. Alleged photos of human bite marks on the victims were reported to have been seen, although none have been made available to the public. Health officials were originally dispatched to the province to check on the children when word had gotten back to them about the mysterious illness, and when workers showed up, the parents' fevers were reported to have been so high, they were not able to even keep awake during the kids' checkups.

Three "human bite marks" were supposedly viewed on all of the children, and with the concern of a rabies outbreak, vaccinations were ordered for all villagers in the area and people were told to look out for a "rabid person" walking around the area. The health official had already planned to return to the area on April 1st when she was informed via text that all 3 children had died, and then mysteriously "awoken" a short time later and had attacked their parents. A local group leader allegedly was bitten when he tried to assist the parents, and the local government has issued a gag order on anyone involved with this incident as to not fuel the fire of any "zombie outbreak" rumors.

Assessing all of the above info regarding the story, whether or not this is a true incident, you can't deny that in this day and age, with all of the rapidly advancing diseases that even we in the United States are unaware of, there certainly could be something out there that is capable of turning someone into a flesh-eating denizen of the dead.
