The Walking Dead "Survival Instinct" Update
Many of you know about the game The Walking Dead by Telltale Games that has been releasing episodes for a few months now. That game is a great game and is deserving of all of the praise that it has gotten thus far. The biggest concern that a lot of people have had, including myself is that it included locations and characters from the show, but the protagonist was not one of those main few we were familiar with.
Activision is looking to change that next year with their newest video game inspired by "The Walking Dead". Titled "The Walking Dead 'Survival Instinct'" this game allows players to assume the role of Daryl Dixon. According to Activision when describing the game:
It is a first-person survival title takes place within the universe of “The Walking Dead” and before the events of the AMC show, following Daryl and his brother Merle on a gruesome journey to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta as the world around them ends. Reedus and Rooker will bring life to their characters' desperate, unforgiving struggle against limited resources, the nightmarish walkers and, perhaps, their fellow survivors...
The best news of all came today when it was announced that Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker would be reprising their roles as Daryl and Merle for the game. This is exciting news and if it is an indicator of what is to come there is much excitement in the future. Stay tuned to Zombies & Toys for continued coverage of The Walking Dead "Survival Instinct" and watch for the game to drop next year on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC.

Well, here you go - some of the most popular characters to grace our screens, and what they may look like if they truly were to perish in the game we were controlling them in.......and had been "rejuvenated." - Look on in horror but just keep telling yourself " it's just a game........it's just a game."

Some? Most? No, All! All Zombies Must Die review
All Zombies Must Die reviewDeveloper: Doublesix
Publisher: Doublesix
Platform: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows
Release date: January 4, 2011
When the inevitable zombie apocalypse hits, what will you do? Will you run and cry like the doomed souls in the movies we watch? Or will you nut up, grab a weapon and lay down some righteous fury? These are the options before All Zombies Must Die (AZMD) and its hero, Jack.
Story
Welcome to Deadhill, a small sleepy suburbia that is suddenly overrun by the shambling dead. Jack is a gamer and slowly begins to wonder if he is in a video game himself. This fact is fine by him as he puts his skills against the endless horde of undead. Along the way, Jack runs into his ex-girlfriend who would just as soon spend time with the zombies. Jack must deal with his ex while running missions to gain weapons, supplies, etc. Along the way, Jack will meet fellow corpse-fighters in his adventure. Using the appropriate bathroom, you’ll be able to switch characters.
Graphics
The cartoony look and feel of AZMD works well with the setting and tone. While cartoonish, there is a sense of creepiness to the lonesome streets, creeping and running zombies and you’re scavenging for weapons. The different types of undead do look good as everything from SWAT zombies to Workout zombies hunt you down. Spraying your enemies with gunfire, torches and sonic weapons looks fitting but the backgrounds, over time, start to look the same.
Sound
Hearing AZMD is okay. Your characters don’t talk except for word bubbles when interacting. The zombies do moan as they should and your weapons have the appropriate crack of a shotgun and roar of fire. However, beyond some funky background music, the sound in All Zombies is nothing special.
Controls
AZMD is a dual stick controlled game. Anyone remember Robotron? Well if you do, you will adapt to All Zombies Must Die quickly. You can also use the regular buttons to cycle through weapons, items and supplies. The controls offer a standard configuration to load ammunition, locate map items and check your location. There were times when it was difficult to aim, shoot and not walk into a mob of monsters.
Zombie factor?
All Zombies Must Die has an off-the-wall, off-the –chart zombie factor. It is literally full of the undead and an endless amount of them will track you all over. While you search boxes, garbage containers and busted furniture for ammo and items, you’re racing against the creeping cadaver behind you. When you’re trying to leave an area and the little robot guardian won’t let you through, you get a slight sense of survival horror.
Conclusion
Is it the best type of zombie game crawling around out there? No. AZMD eventually feels repetitive in its layout, controls and mission. Even with the inclusion of new characters and new zombie types, AZMD doesn’t stand out in one’s memory. However, is All Zombies Must Die worth playing? Yes. It’s fun. It’s simple and it offers some challenges here and there. Several in-game jokes will gain a chuckle to gamers (the Left 4 Dead reference was pretty quick-witted.) So grab your controller, load your shotgun and fill your bug-out bag. You have one mission: All Zombies Must Die.

Trapped Dead Review

Have you ever questioned what it would be like to play a zombie survival game with Tactical elements? How about the question of what a game like Commandos would be like if you controlled regular people trying to survive the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse? How about the question of whether a colt or automatic pistol would be the better weapon to take down the ever advancing hoards of the undead? If you answered yes to any of these questions, than look no further than Trapped Dead. It is a real time strategy game developed by Crenetic and published by Headup Games. The official press release for the game highlights some of its features including:
- Terrifying, cinematic game atmosphere
- Appealing tactical game play with numerous shock- and surprise elements
- Highly detailed locations such as mall, jail, scrap yard & many more
- 7 playable different characters
- Thrilling on- and offline multi player co-op mode
- Interactive and dynamic game environment including various traps
- Manifold weapons, gadgets and other items

The game itself plays out like games such as Commandos from a top down 3rd person Isometric perspective. You primary means of targeting and movement are your mouse buttons and keyboard. The controls are easy to pick up and master, which brings the difficulty in the game down to the large numbers of zombies and dwindling ammo. The game does a good job of making you feel weak, powerless and confused at the onslaught while making you feel that you are growing better with your experiences and your increasingly skilled team members.
You have a number of different weapons to help along the way including tasers, shotguns, sniper rifles, automatic pistols, and even baseball bats and kitanas. Along with the weapons there are also many ways in which you can utilize environmental traps to help you take out the advancing hoards. Game play always feels very fluid and the game does a great job at keeping you on track during your missions. The only issue that I had during initial game play was that the game glitched and wouldn’t allow me to go any further. I cannot hold this against the game though as a simple restart fixed the error and allowed me to continue on. This game is very well designed and makes you feel like if you have ever played a real time strategy game before that you will be right at home. So if you are a fan of zombies, guns, and great action/humor look no further than Trapped Dead. This is a great game that will give you many hours of online and offline fun.

Strike it Rich and Dead? Z&T Interview - Zombie Tycoon

When we hear the word "tycoon" we tend to think of oil barons and corner offices. Now, imagine striking it rich...and dead. Z & T go together with Annie Begin, Communications Director for Frima Studio, the makers behind the game Zombie Tycoon.
Zombies & Toys (ZT:) Hi Annie and welcome. Can you give us a basic description of Zombie Tycoon?
Annie Begin (Begin:) While usually, players have to face and stop an undead menace, as human, Zombie Tycoon lets you maneuver your very own ravenous zombie horde through towns and buildings. This unique tale of intrigue and betrayal spans over 10 challenging levels, animated cut-scenes and in-game dialogues, and lots of humorous references. The combat system allows players to burn cities to the ground as they attack humans and the places they call home. As players alternate fast-paced action and strategic execution, they can choose from over 100 quirky items to arm their zombies and attempt to spread the undead across the globe!
(ZT): Sounds very interesting. What was the inspiration for Zombie Tycoon
(Begin:) The idea of the brand was originally hatched in 2007. The popularity of both Ty
coon and Zombie genre games gave us the idea to merge them into one title. With some ideas to develop a mobile game, our team started sketching an impressive collection of 2D zombies. Like most of Frima’s games, we made the visual style of Zombie Tycoon strongly satirical and cartoony.
(ZT:) What is the future of Zombie Tycoon? Will there be multiple console releases, sequels, etc?
(Begin:) Our team is planning a sequel of Zombie Tycoon scheduled to launch in late 2012. We are also using the Zombie Tycoon artwork and style to develop an animated 3D series on TV that will hopefully be further in development soon.
(ZT:) Can you tell us details on Frima Studio?(Begin): Frima Studio is among Canada’s top game developers. Since 2003, the studio has provided clients around the world its multiplatform expertise by producing games on the web (MMO, Facebook, Flash), smartphones (iOS, Android), handheld consoles and next-gen consoles. Frima’s focus to continuously be at the leading edge of technology has helped the studio build strong partnerships with major players like Adobe, and be one of the few companies eligible to participate in the pre-release program of Molehill, Adobe’s new 3D Flash technology. Thanks to its talented team of 265 artists and programmers, Frima has emerged as a leader in the gaming industry. This was made possible by the groundbreaking visuals and technological achievements showcased in every one of the 300+ games that Frima produced. Frima has earned the trust of an impressive list of clients, including Sony, Electronic Arts, Warner Bros., Build-A-Bear Workshop and Nickelodeon.

More Dead Island Footage Released
If you are like me, you love video games and zombies. You also have probably played games like Stubbs the Zombie, Dead Rising, or the Left 4 Dead series. In the recent months we have started to see the resurgence of hype over the game Dead Island. The trailer for it has been recut and even reversed to show the pure level of chaos that has erupted on a resort island following a zombie outbreak. The game is being billed for its improvised weaponry, great melee damage modeling, and a huge living world with many different factions of survivors to interact with.
Many were originally worried that this would just turn into a run and gun type game that Left 4 Dead had become. The good thing is that footage in the video shows that this is a melee weapon heavy game. The inclusion of a stamina system also prevents this from being a game where you can just hack and slash your way through. You must choose every shot and swipe carefully as your stamina will drain and you will tire, becoming defenseless to the zombie hoards. The number of zombies in this game is just staggering at times.
As of now this game looks to be a true survival horror zombie game the like of which hasn’t truly been seen in many years. Keep your sights posted here for more information as it becomes available on this great game that is set to be released later this year. With gameplay that is promising to be 25-30 hours in length, a number of different character classes to play, weapon crafting/customization and some great multiplayer play, this looks to be a good step for zombies in video games and a great leap for the horror genre in gaming. So without further ado, we give you the footage. Enjoy!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops
New Zombies Map “Call Of The Dead”
Anyone who has played the latest iteration of the Call Of Duty series knows that one of the best features is the Zombies mode. On May 3rd a new map will be available as a part of the Escalation Downloadable Content (DLC) for Xbox 360 as a timed exclusive (PS3 and PC to come later). A special flavor added to the map is that it features some pretty well known faces. Robert Englund, Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michael Rooker and George Romero are featured in this zombie-filled bullet fest.
Below is the slick trailer introducing what will probably be the best part of the DLC map pack. Five maps comprise the pack (4 regular and 1 zombies) and it will cost 1200 Microsoft Points ($15). Hope to see you on the battlefield!

The Walking Dead to Invade Gaming Consoles
If you are a fan of The Walking Dead, you are probably thirsting for everything that you can get your hands on. That being said, there was a nice announcement from TellTale Games that they are developing a game based off of the popular comic series. According to the company, the game is going to be released on PC, Mac, the iPad, and various gaming consoles. IGN.com went on to report that the game is meant to be a “multi-year, multi-platform, multi-title” production. The company is further looking to make the games episodic much like the TV show. Look forward to the release of the first game at the end of this year.

Dead Island - A Dream Come True?
Dead Island leaves you on a paradise island vacation spot when the dead rise. A "sandbox" game, this free-roaming first person game has you exploring the entire island. There is one little twist I recall reading before that leaves me questioning how the end result will turn out. In Dead Island, you have the ability to transform yourself into a zombie temporarily. I also recall hearing that the characters have "layers" which result in realistic physical damage as you strike the walking corpses. Due for release sometime this year, rely on Zombies & Toys to continue bringing you updates.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: The Fate of Two Worlds Review
Chad Hamilton
Fireballs? Check. Razor claws? Check. Shotgun and Desert Eagle? Double-check. Fans of the tried and tested fighting series, Marvel vs. Capcom, can now rejoice. The ultimate in pixel pounding, two-dimensional take downs is back! With newly defined graphics, over-the-top super moves and fan boys’ dream of characters, is Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (MvC3) going to rock the two worlds? Or will it doom them and the series once and for all?
With a thinly veiled storyline involving Marvel Comics’ supervillain Doctor Doom and Resident Evil’s antagonist Albert Wesker, MvC3 brings superheroes, supervillains, succubi and giant robots together in battle. While zombie fans will recall the surprisingly formidable Jill Valentine in previous incarnations, they will initially only find Chris Redfield and Wesker himself as options to play. Valentine is reported to be available later via downloadable content. Comic fans will enjoy playing as Spiderman, the Hulk, Wolverine or Captain America to name a few. Capcom players can get into the armor of Arthur from Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Ryu from Street Fighter and an ensemble of other characters from the company’s repertoire.
The graphics are beautiful. From Redfield’s ginormous biceps to Wesker’s sleek leather uniform, the look and style of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is worth pausing the game just to enjoy the look. Resident Evil fans will quickly notice the background for the level where your team of three characters must battle their opponents in the laboratory of TriCell, Resident Evil 5’s evil corporation. When combos are chained, they literally shatter the glass holding areas of Lickers crawling in the background. For that extra touch of zombie, the level of Ghosts ‘n Goblins features sharply generated undead that old school Nintendo players will recognize. The sounds are full of enough crashes, clashes and splash page effects to put players in the panels of their favorite comic book. However, many of the glib and enjoyable sound bites are lost amidst the roar of repulsor rays and flamethrowers.
Gameplay is well done. While previous versions in the series featured complicated maneuvers, MvC3 allows for some simple and quickly performed attacks. Wesker’s hyperspeed assault is good but watching Redfield unload nearly every weapon from the RE arsenal is worth saving up the combo meter. He hits the unsuspecting foe with the shotgun, several handguns and the crowd-pleasing, undead clearing rocket launcher.
Zombie factor?
MvC3 has a low zombie factor. There was initial discussion by the game’s developers to include Tyrant and Nemesis from Resident Evil’s first and third entries. However, there was concern that the nature of the monstrosities would have led to a more mature rating for the game. Hopefully, with the inclusion of Jill Valentine, the developers will also bring back her ability to summon a shambling or flaming T-virus corpse. With that having been said, MvC3 is still a worthwhile go regardless if you’re looking for brains, adamantium or a fight to the finish.

New Zombie Game from Undead Labs to Attack Xbox 360 Arcade
Jeff Strain, the head of Undead Labs, has been quoted as saying his ultimate goal is to create “a cultural phenomenon, rather than make mere games.” They hope to take the first steps to realizing this dream with the release of "Class 3". Undead Labs have partnered with Microsoft Game Studios to release their first title, a single-player, open world zombie survival game. The game, codenamed ‘Class 3’, is going to be a story-driven glimpse at Undead’s goal of a zombie MMO. The game is a third-person 3D open action game that will focus more on survival than Zombie slaying. James Phinney, the creative director, has given a few examples on how the game will potentially play out in an interview with 1up.com:
"We're talking about all the stuff that you'd expect in an open world action game," said Phinney. "Driving around, running over a bunch of zombies, booby-trapping a truck so that it will blow up. Grabbing a boombox, finding that the battery is still working. You can turn that on and use it as a lure for zombies, and hopefully you have some plans for dealing with it when they're there.
"Maybe it's a way of attracting them to kill a bunch, maybe it's to attract them so you can sneak past them to get to that food you're trying to collect or the survivors you're trying to rescue. You're going to find a spot and say, this has a supply of guns and ammos that we need back at our base, and bring in a bunch of the survivors you've rescued to pick that up and escort it back through the city. So, very action-oriented, a very organic experience, and at the same time you've got a base to build. How ambitious you want to be about it is up to you."
As of right now the game is still in the early stages of development. If you would like to take a look at some of the screen shots and concept art the team is trying to create scroll down. We will be sure to keep you updated on this amazing game at all points. If things work out we will hopefully be seeing this definitive zombie game sometime soon.

Trailer Trash or knocked out the park?
Chad Hunter
Zombie fans have long searched for good iPhone apps to kill the undead and some time. NinjaKiwi has released Zombie Trailer Park in an effort to finally meet necrotic desires. Does Zombie Trailer Park (ZTP) hit the mark? The answer is yes.
ZTP is a real-time strategy game where players’ bases and resources are on the left and the zombie encampment is on the right. As time progresses, your trailer park builds money which allows you to buy new structures and add to your army (e.g. shotgun and shovel wielding farmers.) However, every moment that passes is filled with a constant stream of undead clawing their way to your base. Zombie Trailer Park has basic but effective graphics, a short learning curve and several levels full of tongue-in-cheek humorous jabs at rednecks, hill-jacks and horrific cadaverous hordes. For the current price of free, ZTP is a definite addition to anyone’s smart device.

Animales de la Muerte
Back in 2008, High voltage software announced a WiiWare exclusive title: Animales de la Muerte (animals of death). In the game, players would find a distressed zookeeper in Mexico loading up his young visitors with automatics and sub-machine guns to help him take care of his pest problem. Along the way, your weapons get stronger and there’s the occasional rescue mission.
The reason we’re telling you about it again today? It’s not just for WiiWare anymore! …possibly. at. all.
"It could very well be for WiiWare, as well," said Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage. "We did some WiiWare stuff ( Gyrostarr, High Voltage Hot Rod Show) and it did okay. We didn't lose money on any of that. But I would say it wasn't encouraging enough that we would be doing a ton of stuff [on WiiWare]."
High Voltage just announced that Animales de la Muerte is coming to Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and Steam. PETA be warned, many zombie animals will be harmed during the presentation of this game.
Keep your eyes on the lookout for updates, which we should have after the Developer’s conference next month. As we hear about it, you’ll hear about it. Enjoy the Trailer below, and for some great screencaps, check out trueachievements.com.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
Alright, kids. It might be time to shell out the cash to pick up a Nintendo 3DS (in stores March 27, 2011). I’m a little late announcing this; but, that doesn’t make it any less interesting. Upon launch, we can expect twenty or so games, not the least of which will be brought to us by our friends at Capcom; creators of the Resident Evil game universe. For any of you who’ve stuck by the franchise through the fourth and fifth offerings, you have probably tried your hand at the Mercenaries mode. If not, prepare yourself to take on endless floods of corpses that get harder and harder as you go. The upside? Well, at least you have limited ammo and time. Wait? That’s the upside? Yeah. It’s like one of my college professors told me one time, “There are 2 truths in this life: your mother will always love you and you will die.” Welcome to Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.
So, what’s the point? High score, baby. Once you get past the whole inevitably being the main course at Bob’s Zombie Buffet, you can start to really challenge yourself. The levels in the 3DS version will be a collection of all the greatest maps from R.E. four and five. Character selection looks like a choice of a few characters from previous titles, such as: Hunk, Jack Krauser, Clair and Chris Redfield. You’ll have two minutes to kick ass and take names while your score rises through the rankings toward the ultimate goal: High. Score. dom? There can be only one.
Check out the video below and for a more in depth look; make the leap over to techdigest.com. Good luck and remember: Headshots!

“They’re coming to get you, Isaac…” Dead Space 2 Review
The undead have haunted us in Pennsylvanian farmhouses; Midwest cities under corporate control and with EA’s Dead Space, the shambling reanimated had found their way into space. Now, with the latest installment in the Dead Space universe, we found ourselves pitted against the resurrected clawing at airlocks and craving our flesh. With Visceral Games and EA’s newest survival horror entry available everywhere today, the question is posed: is Dead Space 2 (DS2) worth the wait or a greater loss than the crew of the Ishimura?
Set your worries for the growing hordes of Necromorphs coming for you. There is no need to ponder the wonder that is Dead Space 2. It is a worthy successor to the Dead Space universe. You will once again find yourself in the role of Isaac Clarke, engineer and unfortunate hero battling the insane, the corrupt, the zealot and the Necromorphs: a race of twisted and savage horrors born from hijacked human flesh and enigmatic alien influence. Dead Space 2 begins with Isaac defenseless and only able to run. Blood pressure will rise. Tensions will grow. DS2 starts off with a pounding pulse and never lets go.
The graphics of Dead Space 2 are beautiful. When you’re not running and gunning for your life, take the time to look around. The scenery of the Sprawl, the colony where the terror begins, is marvelous. While it may be hard to witness the work that goes into the threats attacking Clarke, the detail in the Necromorphs is masterful. Dead Space 2 has to be one of the most visually acclaimed games in a very young 2011.
Dead Space 2’s sounds match its sights. When the plasma cutter fires or the Puker launches a storm of acidic vomit at Clarke, it sounds like it. Every shock of laser or splat of blood and intestine is resounding and clear. The only issue with the sounds in Dead Space 2 is a subjective one. Isaac, who was previously silent in the first game, now speaks. While there is nothing wrong with the voice acting, there was something unique and personifying to the silent protagonist. Beyond that gripe, hearing DS2 is almost as good as seeing it.
The plot is driven by the action and vice versa. You are notified through the game by various personnel of the Sprawl. Fans of the series will be familiar with the theme of Unitology, the mysterious Necromorphs and the ominous Marker. While it is still at times unclear why all Hell breaks loose, it is enough to know and hear the directions and objectives for Clarke. A very nice touch is that the game literally starts right at the end of the downloadable Dead Space: Ignition.
Dead Space 2 controls like a charm. It is well-oiled and moves smoothly and the challenge is never about how to move or guide your character. The single player mission is worth playing repeatedly and the multiplayer does offer unique perspectives. Players can either be human’s moving about various maps or Necromorphs themselves, out to thwart their human counterparts.
Zombie factor?
Dead Space 2 is a great game but how high is its zombie factor? High. Dead Space 2’s application of corpses being brought back for alien purposes in mass hordes gives players the feel of fear. You are put in situations where running is the only sane choice and you can’t. The appeal of the zombie is its mindless, unending pursuit of horrific goals and the nightmare that it was once like us. The necrotic walking abattoirs remind us of just that: we are all potential monsters. Several times in the game, other characters come apart as they realize the nightmare of killing those that were once family and friends. These monsters do not rise from cemeteries or morgues but they crawl from space suits and ships, nonetheless terrifying.
In the end, Dead Space 2 is a gratifying run and a necessary addition to any gaming library. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are beautiful and the PS3 Limited Edition offers a download of Dead Space: Extraction for the PS3 Move. The game is fun, frightening and does everything it is supposed to do. Dive into the universe of the Marker, hold on to your sanity and remember that aiming for the head is pointless; dismember, hope and pray.

Dead Space 2 Demo Review
How many of you have played Dead Space? If you haven’t, first, I would like to say go out and play this game! Especially if you consider yourself a fan of survival horror. That being said, next month will mark the release of Dead Space 2. With excitement, I logged on to my XBOX 360 last week and found the demo for Dead Space 2. I must say, if this demo is anywhere near the levels that the finished product will be then consider me sold already. There are many marked improvements that can already be seen from the first game. Namely, weapon management seems to have been tightened so it is now easier than ever to change your weapons and sever limbs from the infected.
If you not familiar with Dead Space, I can tell you that you are fighting the infected crew of a spaceship who have turned into monsters. These monsters can only be killed by extreme dismemberment (think 2 or more limbs, and head shots don’t put them down for good). Also, from what I could see, the environment has been expanded to a whole space station and not a mere spaceship. The world is bigger but the hallways and corridors that you traverse still evoke a sense of fear that many other games can not. There were multiple times during the demo when I admittedly jumped, which is something that a lot of other games have not made me do. The other big change from this game to the last is that we finally hear our protagonist and see his face for the first time, and the voice acting here is top notch.
I wish there was more that I could say about this game, but the demo we are given is unfortunately very short and leaves you on a cliffhanger. If you want to experience the joys of the demo, you may do so now by going to the xbox live marketplace or the playstation store and downloading it for yourself. Look back near the end of next month for a full review of the game when it is released.
