Many of us are aware of the joys that came with finding creating ways to destroy the zombie hoard in Dead Rising 2. Coming this October 11th, we will have the next inclusion into the series, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, starring our protagonist from Dead Rising, Frank West. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record looks to replace the main character Chuck Greene with Frank West as well as added quests and weapons. They have released a new trailer, that can be seen below, in which they show Frank's greatest hits as narrated by Frank himself. For a nice treat and another look at Frank West click below and watch this fun video and as always stay tuned to the site as we will be giving you any information we get on this great game.

Dead Rising 2 - game review
David Brown
From all the media coverage this game has been getting in the recent weeks, let me start by saying one thing, this game is a game of epic proportions. The advertising campaign, in general, has been to show the sheer fact of weapon combination. I do however see a few drawbacks in this. While this is a great selling point, I believe the commercials only show the tip of the iceberg. With that being said, I would like to highlight this truly great game.
From the story that we are told, Dead Rising 2 takes place 5 years after the original, which took place in the large Willamette Parkview mall complex. The first game had so much to offer in that it allowed you to go about the story at your own pace and do things your way. You could choose to follow the storyline and uncover more of the backstory with each ticking minute or you could explore the mall and “play” as you chose.
The sequel expands vastly upon that aspect of the first. You play this time as Chuck Greene, a father desperate to find the Zombrex that his daughter needs, while finding a way away from the zombie epidemic that has exploded around him. This is a game where you play as you choose. You are free to follow the storyline, which this time has been thankfully expanded. The clock that plagued the first game has been slowed down a lot. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like there was plenty of time to explore and rescue survivors. The time crunch of the first game seems to have been lessened.
The focus of this game is definitely on the item creation mechanic. You take two items and find an engineer bench. It is at these benches that you combine the items in order to yield deadlier weapons. One great example of this the spiked bat, a weapon you can make early in the game. You get this weapon by combining nails and the baseball bat; this creates the aforementioned bat that cuts through zombie flesh like a hot knife through butter. The spiked bat is just the tip of the iceberg here as there are many other combinations. Combination cards that show new weapons can be found via posters on walls, by rescuing survivors, or defeating psychopaths.
The zombies in this game are plentiful and as varied as the many weapons you can use or the costumes you can wear. It seems that throughout the city you can always find a different zombie. The great thing is that just when you think you have seen all the zombies that the game has to offer, a story event triggers and new enemies show up. The main story itself takes place over the course of a few days and as described earlier revolves around saving your daughter and escaping the city. The only gripe I have about the story is that it makes you help your daughter every day at the same time. It is not the fact that you have to help her; so much as, it seemed that every time I had to help survivors I would get back to the safe house having to wait around to help her before I could continue. Where the last game kept you going nonstop I found a few areas of slowdown in this one.
In the end though the single player is a great step up from the first Dead Rising, the story hear seems to really have a steady pace throughout, and the inclusion of the weapon creation really give this a step up and qualifies it as a story that is better than the first in every way. The best part of all though is that there is that the single player is not the only thing offered here. There is also the Terror is Reality multiplayer mode to help extend the game play.
Terror is Reality allows four players to compete against each other in a number of rounds, in the mini game style similar to a morbid Mario Party with Zombies. One game has you utilizing cannons to shoot bowling balls at zombies perching in doorways. Another has you outfitting your motorbike with chainsaws to mow down as many zombies as you can in a set time limit. There is a lot of variety here and the best part is that all money you win here directly transfers to your single player game, so you can have your fun online and then go buy items you want from in game pawnshops.
There is also a nice co-op mode where you can drop into another player’s game. There are instances where you will be playing and an alert will let you know that someone wants to join. This is nice especially when you encounter a tougher psychopath or just want to have some good fun with a new friend. The best thing about this type of co-op is that it encourages teamwork over competition, which is always a great aspect when trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.
Overall this is a great game and a must have for anybody who even liked the first game. There is so much to do and the replay value is just so high that you just cannot help but pick up this fun game. There is a nice option to where you can import your user level from the XBOX360 Arcade game that came out a few weeks before this. Do not hesitate to shamble over to your local retailer and pick up dead rising. It is a great game for zombie fans and action gamers alike.

Dead Rising 2 - first impressions
David Brown
The fun continues when you open the box and see all of the items that are included. We get a nice prescription pad for those who have to prescribe Zombrex to their friends, family, and neighbors. To go along with the nice prescription pad a Zombrex Syringe Pen has been included, along with a Zombrex branded bandage. The pen is a nice touch and reminds me of the pens we all played with back in high school and still see in Halloween shops, except filled with blue liquid. To further push the special advertising inclusions there is also an included Zombrex Prospectus catalog that helps sell the product by sharing its’ benefits and the testimonials of users. I think the greatest thing about this is that with all of the aforementioned products, Capcom has decided to print warnings about proper usage, and side effects on the syringe box and in the fine print in the books.
This brings us to the enclosed art book highlighting some magnificent artwork and character designs from the game. The game case itself is placed in a nice steel-book case made to resemble a pill book to show the victim that they must take one pill every 24 hours or suffer the damnation of an “eternal flesh eating hell”. The case is a great conversation piece and furthers the whole Zombrex angle that is big in the storyline to the game. Inside the case, we have a precautionary poster to show signs, prevention techniques, and cure techniques. In addition, a ninja outfit was unlocked with select pre-orders from GameStop. If the option to download this ever comes to the public I recommend that along with this great game and this great edition.
This past Tuesday, was a monumental day for gamers out there who love to mix their hobby with the undead. This is a great enough buy for the game alone, but for those of us who want to take our love of gaming and zombies further, Capcom has given us the Dead Rising 2: Zombrex Edition. Fans from other regions may say that they have better special editions than the one that we were given, but I would not like to compare editions, but look at the merits of the one we have been given.
The Dead Rising 2: Zombrex Edition retails for $79.99 at most major game retailers and in my opinion is well worth the extra money. When you look at the box you realize that you are not just looking at a special edition box, but are being grabbed by the throat and exposed to the virus that is the Dead Rising 2 experience. We are not given mere screenshot on the back of the box, but advertisements for Zombrex, a product vital to the Dead Rising 2 Experience.

Dead Rising 2 Weapons Previewed
IGN recently posted article featuring their favorite weapons in the upcoming Dead Rising 2. Each new piece of news about this game seems funner than the last. I mean, a bucket with drills in it that you put on the zombie's head? I'm not saying the gloves with knives attached or the spiked bat won't be fun. This one's going to be a blast!

Dead Rising 2 - Zombrex Pack

We learned last week about the European edition of Dead Rising 2 and the zombie toy it comes with. Well, for $80, those of us stateside now know what we can expect. A two-disc steelbook case, a Zombrex syringe pen, prescription notepad, prospectus sales brochure, safety card and a 48-page hardback Dead Rising 2 art book.
The PlayStation 3 version comes with a Blu-Ray disc featuring a high definition making-of movie and a voucher for a downloadable XMB theme. Xbox 360 owners will receive the same making-of movie on DVD plus an 83-minute Zombrex Dead Rising Sun movie which is directed by Mega-Man creator Keiji Inafune.
I'd much rather have the toy.

Dead Rising 2: The Outbreak Pack
"The Outbreak Pack" includes a 12" zombie figure complete with game-related accessories. Also included is a download code for bonus themed content. We can also expect content exclusive to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. The only sickening thing about "The Outbreak Pack" is it will only be available in Europe.
Just throwing this out there... if you live in Europe, plan on getting the game, and could care less about the figure, contact me. I'm happy to pay the difference for this figure or trade for some of the wonderful items in The Zombie Toy Store. zombiesandtoys@gmail.com

Dead Rising 2 News ...LOTS of Dead Rising 2 News
So I hear the folks over at Capcom were becoming jealous of all the attention Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 has been getting on Zombies & Toys. As a result, they have dropped a ton of Dead Rising 2 news to report on. Okay, so maybe Capcom doesn't know ZT even exists. But, hey, I still have a ton of Dead Rising 2 news to report!
First, is the official announcement that DR2 will have multiplayer. So, once zombies invade the entertainment hub of Fortune City (think, Las Vegas) what else is there to do but capitalize on it? Bring in the television show, "Terror is Reality". This show allows you and three friends to compete in a series of zombie killing challenges. Sounds like fun but a multiplayer story mode would be nice, too.
The goal of the challenges is to slay more zombies than your opponents. Winning will give you a large paycheck and allow you to come back for more prizes. The challenges are over the top and consist as fun romps like running over zombies in giant hampster balls, riding through hordes of undead on a motorcycle with chainsaws on the handlebars, and putting buckets on the zombies' heads. You'll even have the opportunity to see slow motion replays on the jumbotron screen!
Check out the new screen shots below and check out the additional news that follows.

This next bit of news comes from GamePro and I must admit, I thought it was a hoax. It looks like Frank West from from the original Dead Rising will be featured in a Wii exclusive fighting game, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. It looks like Frank will use basic fighting moves. What's really exciting are his special moves. He has a baseball bat Grand Slam, golf club Giant Swing, and (of course) some zombie moves. He can summon zombies to throw, one that will grab an opponent from the opposite side of the screen, and even a zombie horde.

Dead Rising 2 - Capcom Confirms Multiplayer
Capcom's head of research and developement, Keiji Inafune, confirms that Dead Rising 2 will offer multiplayer."We're at a point in game history that you need to have some form of multiplayer
component in a game," said Inafune, "Single-player alone is not going to cut it.
So rest assured we are going to put multiplayer in the game, but I can't go into
specifics about what type of multiplayer as that directly relates to some of the
game systems that we don't want to talk about at this event. It will be online
multiplayer, so keep that in mind."
It also sounds like we will be able to see up to 7,000 zombies on screen at once! Might want to dust off the original Dead Rising as we will probably not see this one until March 2010.

Dead Rising 2 Video
Not sure if everyone has seen this so I thought I'd put it up just in case.
It has been confirmed that the game will last 72 hours like it's predecessor. I have also read that the dead zombies will remain on the floor until you enter another loading area. That was my only real gripe with the first one. I didn't like that there wasn't a finite amount of zombies in an area. It has not been released whether or not an area can be "cleared out" of zombies rather than continuous respawining.

Dead Rising 2 Update

Christmas may seem like a long way off but game developers are already hard at work preparing. Capcom's zombie slaying sequel, Dead Rising 2, should hit store shelves in time to be added to my Christmas list. News at this point is slow, but expect that to change over the following months. So what's the update?
Product manager of Mental Mill, Laura Schott, let slip some pretty exciting news. It looks like we'll be able to inflict zombie damage with a friend! That's right, Dead Rising 2 will be multiplayer. Since the news was basically a slip up, we are unsure if this means more than two players and if it involves online play.
Schott also stated that Dead Rising 2 will be capable of tracking at least 800 separate clothing textures in order to give the sense that zombies are unique. She also stated that with the technology being used, players could experience as many as 6,000 characters on screen during multiplayer games. 6,000? Yikes! I hope the weapons hold up a bit better in this version.
As previously reported, this game is set in the Vegas-like Fortune City and takes place two years after our encounter in the Willamette Mall. I'll have more news as I find it.
Just a reminder, our friends over at Zombie Head are sponsoring a zombie gathering in Toronto this Friday. Click here for info. Also, don't forget to enter our American Zombie movie contest. One randomly-selected entry will win a free iTunes download of the movie from New Video Digital.

Dead Rising 2?
I mentioned a few posts back about the greatness that is Left 4 Dead. Well, we can't forget about Dead Rising now, can we? Another great game that may have started out as a Dawn of the Dead video game. Those who are familiar will be excited to see this:
Stay tuned, I'll post more information as I find it!
