Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Present Paul

Anybody who has watched the great Shaun of the Dead will recognize Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.  Pegg and Frost were the minds behind and stars of the spectacular British zombie comedy. They are looking to do the same thing with aliens this time in their spoof, Paul: Adopt an Alien.  Set to hit theaters around March 18, Paul does not look as gory as Shaun of the Dead but does look like it will make you laugh. Also gained for production is Seth Rogan.

Zombieland Now On Video

As if everyone reading even needed a reminder... Zombieland will be available to purchase tomorrow. Notice I say "purchase" and not "rent". This is one worth owning, dear readers. I am not even going to waste your time with a review as most of you have seen it already anyway. Being one to always look to receive the most for my money, it appears as if Best Buy will be the best place to pick up your copy. Both the blu ray and the DVD will include some additional features in the "Nut Up or Shut Up" edition while keeping the price the same as other retailers (for the BR anyway, the DVD is two discs and several dollars more).

For good or bad, here are some things to keep in mind about Zombieland in case you haven't seen it: It is along the same vein as Shaun of the Dead (as much as I hate to make the comparison). They are both comedies set in a world where the subject matter and tone is serious. There is an amazing cameo that is one of the major highlights of the film (the only complaint is this section of the film is stretched out a bit). The zombies can run.

Personally, I loved Zombieland and can't wait to watch it several more times. As a zombie fan and a fan of just plain 'ol good movies, it is worth a purchase.

Shaun of the Dead-Inspired Bar

Here's one I've been wanting to post for awhile now. A few of you emailed me about this one so thanks for the heads-up!

Slashfilm.com recently reported on a bar that opened with a Shaun of the Dead-ish vibe. The bar was closed and reopened under new management as Donny Dirk's Zombie Den. Bartenders dress like Shaun, complete with red tie and red spot. And what zombie den would be complete without a chainsaw encased in glass to break in case of an emergency?

Interview With Cast & Creative Team Behind Zombieland

Movies Online has an interview up with the team involved in Sony's latest zombie comedy, Zombieland. Featured in the interview are the three main actors; Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone. Also taking part in the interview are director Ruben Fleisher, and writer/executive producers Paul Warnick and Rhett Reese.

New Zombie Movie Announced - "Gatekeeper"

Empire Online has just posted news about another upcoming zombie film, Gatekeeper. Starring Judge Reinhold, Lea Thompson, and Ron Pearlman, Gatekeeper is being said to be the Americanized Shaun of the Dead. We mentioned Pearlman in another zombie-featured film, I Sell the Dead, in a previous post. Circle of Confusion is the production company.

Now, I love zombies and zombie movies but I think it's a mistake to already make comparisons to Shaun of the Dead. And what needs 'Americanized' with Shaun anyway? I love hearing the ramblings when I read these announcements of people sick of zombies. I see their point as the past few years have been chock full 'o zombies, but I don't think you can have too much zombie goodness!

"We're told that the film is a zombie thriller, which producer Stephen Emery says will be "in the vein of 'Shaun of the Dead' for American audiences" - a laudable aim, at least. We're told that "a simple mistake" leaves three friends to defend their town from a zombie outbreak, in a script written and set to be directed by Isaac Meisenheimer."
